Welcome!
Folk Ensemble LAZURKI since its foundation 25 years ago has taken children and youth to the world of Polish folklore. The group was founded in 1989 by Zofia Marcinek – perennial choreographer and artistic director. From the beginning of its existence LAZURKI has been related to Bemowo, one of the Warsaw’s district, where the group has its home.
The history of the existence of the ensemble is directly associated with the School of Dance of Zofia Marcinek and Witold Malinowski – a teacher of ballroom dances, an instructor of many champion pairs and a specialist of the Argentine tango.
Currently the group is formed by children and youth in age from 5 to 19 years old. The participation in the vocal and dance classes gives the young artists an opportunity to learn the traditional Polish songs and dances and develop their abilities under the eyes of qualified instructors. During the classes young people can also learn the rules of group work and respect for other people and for the national heritage.
The rich repertoire of the group can be divided into national and regional dances. The gracious polonaise with the vivid mazurka often dignify important celebrations. During concerts the group presents dances and songs from Cracow, Rzeszow, Silesia, Lowicz, Sacz and Kashubia. The group also presents choreographies based on the folklore of pre-war Warsaw.
Folk Ensemble LAZURKI gives concerts both in Poland and abroad. Throughout many years the representatives of the group have had a chance to perform in the entire country as well as outside Poland: in Hungary, Slovakia, Spain, France and Bulgaria. In 2006 one of the most significant international undertakings of Folk Ensemble LAZURKI was the project „Pasja ponad granicami” which was supported by funds of the European Union.
The skills of the members of the group were recognized in numerous contests and folkloric reviews. They won many prizes and distinctions gave by, among others, the Warsaw Cultural Center and the Bemowo District of Warsaw. The group received a special award of the City of Warsaw in 2010.
Folk Ensemble LAZURKI presents beautiful polish folklore in numerous concerts. It provides an artistic setting during events which take place in schools, museums, cultural centers and many different reviews and festivals. The ensemble gives also charity concerts for ill children and for elderly people.
Since 1998 Folk Group LAZURKI acts as an association, which in June 2008 obtained the status of Public Benefit Organization.
